About  The Human Rights Rights Tattoo Project.

HUMAN RIGHTS TATTOO; 1cm2 of your skin for human rights.

Taking one letter at a time from the official Human Rights Declaration, Dutch artist Sander van Bussel is travelling around the world; tattooing all 6773 characters onto 6773 people. Together this tattooed community will carry this Declaration through their life, for a lifetime. The tattoo is not only a self-reminder, this community spreads these words by talking about their tattoo.

In the last five years this living work of art has grown into an amazing community of 3518 participants, from 63 different countries, and is becoming one of the biggest community art works in the world.  The community is an amazing mixture of people, young and old, from the slums of Nairobi to the streets of Manhattan, activists, lawyers and ex prisoners, politicians and CEOs.

This group is united on the Human Rights Tattoo website where every person and every tattoo is documented by a photo of the tattooed letter, a name and a motivation in text. At this moment you are able to read the first 20 articles in tattoos. HRT received critical acclaim internationally by magazines such as Huffington Post, Dazed and major TV stations.
